First read a library copy, made notes, and incorporated some ideas in my personal note-taking, and in teaching students to take notes that are easier to recall. Absolutely lovely writing---. The book was the version prior to the current textbook, but other than some more current statistics, this book filled the need. For anyone who is trying to understand a parent who went thru these experiences, or who just wants a greater understanding of how traumas affect us for the rest of our lives, this book is a must read.
